The Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics is one of the largest and strongest of its kind in Europe. The Department currently hosts approximately 140 Academic and Research Staff and around 160 PhD students at the Centre for Mathematical Sciences, a purpose-built complex in Wilberforce Road, Cambridge.
P A Collacott & Company were awarded this project to undertake the upgrade of the sites BEMS this involved stripping out Honeywell controls installed in 2001 to installing IQ4’s and now the new and improve 2024 Trend IQ5’s.
This upgrade is to accommodate for the sites general plant as well as the automatic control of the windows and blinds to facilitate the employees, students and professor’s comfort.
Pavilions with solar sensors calculate the power and direction of sunlight on each face of the building and shut the blinds accordingly, likewise the windows open and close between 0 & 100% dependent on space temperature and outside air temperature. This all creates a relaxing atmosphere which enhances productivity on site. Keypads are also installed in the rooms to have the option of overriding the control systems to suits the needs of the user when necessary.
