Cambridge Airport - Ground Running Test Bay
Client: Blast Deflectors Incorporated
Location: Cambridge Airport
This project has been one of the largest structures we have worked upon to date, the new Ground Running Enclosure (GRE), the equivalent size of a football pitch, significantly reduces noise during aircraft ground testing and can accommodate aircraft up to the size of a Boeing 747-400.
The multi-million pound structure significantly reduces noise impact in the immediate vicinity of the Airport where owners, Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group’s specialist applied engineering work is undertaken on aircraft from across the globe.
The new GRE is 90m wide and 20m high and enables conditioning of the airflow to the propellers and jet engine intakes. We carried out the both the M&E installation for Blast Deflectors, Inc. who are world leaders in solutions for reducing aircraft noise. We initially met with the client and visited a similar site in Hamburg in early 2019. From this meeting we were then tasked to design the M&E installation to meet current British standards. We carried out the design and installation of the power, lighting and fire alarm and supplied the labour to carry out the installation of the electrical and safety components on the motorised doors. The project was completed on time and on budget.
We must also mention the owners, Marshalls Aerospace, who were as always, a most accommodating, supportive Client. On behalf of all our staff, we can honestly say, it was one of the most enjoyable, job fulfilling projects our staff have had the pleasure to work upon.
